Residential and Commercial Roofs
We know how to get things done, and get them done right. Some may say these qualities are rare in a contractor, but we consider them standard business.
— Owner, Peter’s Roofing
Layover or re-roof? It’s an important decision. When your existing roof becomes unacceptably deteriorated, the roofing product manufacturer will not honor their warranty. Peter’s Roofing considers four criteria when evaluating whether we can re-roof over your existing roof:
-Local building codes
-The condition of the framing beneath the existing roof
-The fastening anchorage that the existing deck provides
-The condition of the surface on which new roofing will be applied
Proper installation is essential to roofing system performance. Valleys and eaves are a weak point in your roofing system. They should be protected with metal or premium roofing felt, according to manufacturer’s specifications and industry standards.
Peter’s Roofing utilizes single-ply EPDM for commercial roofing projects. EPDM is a Thermoset material. It is either fully cured prior to being installed, or it cures during natural weathering after installation.
EPDM roofs are single-ply membranes, so there is only one ply of roofing material, not multiple plies laminated together. EPDM is a rubber material manufactured from ethylene and propylene. A flexible rubber matrix forms when a small amount of diene is added to the mix. EPDM is available reinforced or unreinforced with both commonly used; it’s also available in either a cured (vulcanized) or uncured (non-vulcanized) state. Vulcanized EPDM is commonly installed for roofing. Non-vulcanized EPDM is used for flashing.

Typical Residential Roof
1. Eave Protection provides an extra line of defense against water penetration due to ice dams or wind-driven rain (and the costly damage they can cause). Extra protection is also strongly recommended for sealing around vents, low pitch areas, ridges, hips, rake edges, chimneys, dormers, vent stacks, and skylights.
2. Underlayment is an important layer of protection. Peter’s Roofing installs 1″ ISO Board, 7/16″ OSB, or 5/8″ plywood sheathing in 4’x8′ sheets, depending on the slope of the roof and the requirements of the homeowner. On top of the decking, we install #30 felt rolled roofing material for total deck protection.
3. Shingles can be beautiful and distinctive. Several manufacturers offer premium roofing shingles which mimic the look of natural slate tiles or cedar shakes, without their associated maintenance worries and cost. Premium shingles deliver the ultimate in weather protection for high-value residences.
4. Ridge Cap shingles are required where roof planes meet, and provide additional protection along these high stress areas of the roof. They enhance your home’s aesthetic appeal by accentuating the roof line. Almost every steep-sloped roof will have a ridge at the top of the roof, where different sides of the roof meet.
